South Bend Airport

This system features the complete demolition of the existing HVAC system and re-design and utilizes a large horizontal earth-coupled geothermal closed loop heat exchange system.

The greatest challenge of this project was the interface of the loop field construction schedule within the operation of the working airport.  A primary benefit of the geothermal system was the use of large areas of greenway as an economical source for heating and cooling their entire facility.  Energy savings for the airport are estimated to be 40% lower than the previous system.
